Licensing and activation

Last updated 5 min read

Voxstr licenses are issued through LemonSqueezy. This article covers how the trial works, what your license entitles you to, what happens when you cancel or renew, and how refunds work.

Plans and pricing

Voxstr offers three plans:

The first 1,000 customers get beta pricing: $1/month, $5/year, $10 lifetime. The beta tier is honored for the life of the subscription (or forever, for lifetime). Once the cap is hit, public pricing applies to new customers.

See the pricing section on the homepage for the current plan and the live beta-cohort counter.

How the trial works

The trial gives you 3,000 words of dictation before you need an active license. A few details worth knowing:

When the trial counter reaches zero, dictation pauses. You stay in this state until you activate a license. Voxstr stays installed and your settings, vocabulary, and history are preserved.

Entering your license key

After purchase, LemonSqueezy emails you a license key. Activate it from Settings → License → Enter key. Voxstr contacts LemonSqueezy to verify the key and claim a device slot, then unlocks dictation.

You can also manage your subscription, payment method, and invoices from the LemonSqueezy customer portal — the link is in your purchase email and is also linked from the in-app dashboard at Settings → License → Manage subscription.

Device limits and self-deactivation

Each Voxstr license covers two active devices. If you want to use Voxstr on a third Mac (or you replaced an old Mac and need to reclaim its slot), free a slot from Settings → License → Devices. Pick the device you no longer use and click Deactivate. The slot is released within a few seconds and the new device can activate.

If you no longer have access to the old Mac (lost, stolen, or wiped), use the same screen — self-deactivation works without needing the original device online.

Renewal and the 7-day grace period

Subscriptions renew automatically. If a renewal payment fails (expired card, declined transaction, etc.), Voxstr enters a 7-day grace period:

Cancellation

Cancel your subscription at any time from the LemonSqueezy customer portal. After cancellation:

Lifetime purchases do not need to be cancelled — there is no recurring charge.

Refunds

Email [email protected] within 30 days of purchase to request a refund. A few mechanics worth knowing in advance:

Local data (history, vocabulary, settings) is yours regardless of license state. A refund does not delete anything from your Mac.

Founders licenses

Explicit pre-launch testers and Wave 1 promo code holders receive a Founders license. Founders pricing is honored for the life of the product, regardless of changes to public pricing. If you have one, the in-app license screen will show Founders as your tier and the customer portal will show your beta plan.

License troubleshooting

License is stuck on “Validating”

Voxstr is waiting on a response from LemonSqueezy. If it does not clear within 60 seconds, click Re-validate from Settings → License. If that fails, click Re-enter key and paste the key again. If it still fails, your network may be blocking the connection — see the troubleshooting article.

“Device limit reached” on activation

Your two device slots are taken. Open Settings → License → Devices on either of the active devices, deactivate one, then retry activation here. If neither device is reachable, use the same screen on the device you are activating — self-deactivation works remotely.

License says “Expired” right after I renewed

Voxstr has not re-validated yet. Wait up to 60 seconds and try again, or click Re-validate from Settings → License to force the check.

I cancelled but Voxstr still works

That is correct. Cancellation lets you keep dictating until the end of the current period. The license expires when the period ends; dictation pauses on the next launch after that.
